Aquaman starts its global box office run with China and becomes a massive success. The movie managed to earn a record breaking $94.2 Million during its opening weekend; marking it as one of the DCEU’s biggest hit in that territory. Jason Momoa starring film has earned just about $12.99 Million on its 4th day in China. The Aquaman movie has now already snagged a whopping $107.6 Million in China which is the biggest ever debut for any Warner Bros. movie in that country to this day.
Aquaman not only boasts the biggest ever Chinese opening for any Warner Bros. & DC films in history; it is already beating all of its predecessors’ theatrical runs. For example, Justice League could only make $106 Million throughout its full run in the Chinese cinemas and Aquaman has topped that already.
Aquaman’s opening in China surpasses “Justice League”, “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Wonder Woman” which earned $50.5 Million, $55.7 Million and $37.6 Million respectively.
This superhero underwater adventure film (directed by James Wan) has also earned the biggest opening weekend for any movie in China in the month of December and also made the 4th biggest superhero debut ever (slightly behind Venom and Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War) in the Chinese market.
Aquaman’s global success has yet to be seen as so far China is the only marketplace where the movie has been released. Warner Bros. Studios has decided to expand the Aquaman movie to another 40 international territories (including United Kingdom, Russia, Brazil and Mexico) next weekend. However, the North Americans won’t be able to see the protector of the seas and the King of Atlantis on the big screens for another two weeks.
The cast of the movie includes Jason Momoa (as Aquaman / Arthur Curry), Amber Heard (as Mera), Nicole Kidman (as Queen Atlanna), Patrick Wilson (as Ocean Master / Orm), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as Black Manta), Willem Dafoe (as Nuidis Vulko) and Dolph Lundgren among others.
The film is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring, Fast and Furious 7, The Nun) and is set to hit the domestic theaters on December 21, 2018. Till then, stay tuned for more updates on Aquaman movie.
