If you are a fan of Fast and Furious movies, then we’ve got some bad news for you. Previously, Fast and Furious 9 had an official release date of April 19, 2019, but now it has been extended by a year to April 10, 2020. The project still has no director officially attached to it and that may be the reason why the studio decided to delay the movie. There are reports that Universal wants to work with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on a rumored Hobbs spin-off movie before they proceed to film Fast and Furious 9. Dwayne Johnson did post a photo on social media just last month that almost confirmed the Hobbs spin-off movie is happening with Jason Statham’s character Deckard Shaw on board as well. While there was no official announcement of it, Rock’s Fast and Furious co-star Tyrese Gibson publically showed his discontent with the spin-off project. Gibson called out Rock on his Instagram and made multiple posts mentioning that if he proceeds with the Hobbs spin-off movie project, it would mean he “ignored the heart-to-heart” chat they both had.
Gibson further clarified the reason why he’s making posts on Rock’s Instagram timeline is because he wasn’t responding to his text messages. Universal still hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the spin-off movie but now since F9 has been pushed to 2020, it seems like the vacated slot of April 19, 2019, will be filled by Hobbs’ spin-off.
Fast and Furious franchise cast is making a lot of news lately which is not heartening for the fans. First, there was the Rock-Vin Diesel feud that started during the filming of The Fate of the Furious and got heated quite a lot according to the reports. Thankfully, both megastars ended it quickly and buried the hatchet between them. Soon after that, another original Fast and the Furious star Michelle Rodrigues threatened to leave the franchise if the filmmakers don’t start treating women fairly. Now since F9 has been pushed further down the studio’s priority list, we’ll have to wait and see which cast member bails on the project. Stay tuned for more and latest Hollywood news.
