When Netflix announced The Irishman movie, a lot of people were skeptical about the project for a few good reasons. First, the legendary Joe Pesci who had already retired from acting years ago refused to come back for almost 50 times before finally agreeing to come out of the retirement one last time. Plus, the movie needed a sizeable budget to accommodate the fees of Hollywood juggernauts like Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro and more, but that’s not all. Almost half the budget will go into the digital makeup of the main cast members who are required to look 30 to 40 years younger in the movie. Despite all that, it looks like The Irishman has finally kicked off shooting in New York and we have got the first set photos that show the Goodfellas are back in business, well, at least some of them. Al Pacino who is reportedly playing the role of Jimmy Hoffa – hasn’t joined the rest of the cast yet but he’ll soon be arriving at the set. Believe it or not, The Irishman is the first instant Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino will work together. Take a look at the pictures, below:
Joe Pesci will be playing the role of Russell Bufalino, a Pennsylvanian crime boss who runs the entire East Coast mob operation. Bufalino is a person of interest regarding the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. Al Pacino is going to play Jimmy Hoffa which means that De Niro will be playing the title role of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran.
Actors Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Domenick Lombardozzi, Jack Huston, Stephen Graham and Bobby Cannavale are also in the movie but their roles are currently unknown. The Netflix production is set to release in 2018 however, no official date has been announced yet.
