Justice League is all set to hit theaters this weekend and days couldn’t pass quicker for DC fans around the world. Batman has always been one of the main characters in the league and currently Oscar winner Ben Affleck plays the part. However, that may not be the case anymore and Justice League may be the last time Affleck is seen donning the guise of the iconic Batman. At one point, the immensely talented Ben Affleck was all set to co-write, direct and star in the first Batman solo movie of the current DCEU and even expressed great enthusiasm at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year during Warner Bros.’ presentation for Justice League:
“Let me be clear. Batman is the coolest f—ing part in any universe. I am so thrilled to do it. It is f—ing amazing. After two films, Kevin Tsujihara, Sue Kroll and Toby Emmerich have said, ‘We want you to be our Batman.’ I would be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves. It’s a great time in the DC universe, and you can see why I am so excited to play Batman.”
However, in a recent interview with USA Today, the actor hinted that he is not certain about playing the titular character in The Batman movie. Affleck, like other Justice League co-stars, Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Henry Cavill (Super Man), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) is out promoting Justice League all over the world and was recently asked about his role in The Batman solo movie, to which he responded by saying: it’s “something I’m contemplating,”. This clearly hints that the actor is not at all confident about his inclusion in the first Batman solo movie of the current and ever-expanding DC movie universe.
Affleck also added that he’s not going to play Batman forever and would prefer to leave the role behind in a “graceful” manner. In his own words:
“You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it.”
It looks like that he’s hinting (graceful and cool way) at the upcoming Justice League which has already become the most talked about and hyped DC movie to date. This isn’t the first time the reports of Ben Affleck’s departure from DCEU have surfaced. Following the critical lashing of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. almost scrapped the idea of a Ben Affleck centered Batman movie but chose to subdue the matter in order to avoid creating negative press ahead of the release of the Justice League. However, now since the movie is all set to dominate the box office, it looks like Affleck seems more willing to express doubt about his part as Batman in the DC Universe.
Even if we don’t see Ben Affleck as Batman in the upcoming DC movies, Warner Bros. already have plenty of movies in the pipeline like Wonder Woman 2, Shazam, Suicide Squad 2 and even a Joker origin movie with the legendary Martin Scorsese, to keep the fans coming back to theaters for years. Would you like to see Ben as Batman or do you think its time for someone else to take on the mantle, let us know in the comments and stay tuned for more and latest Hollywood news.
