Good news for Jackie Chan fans. The international action star who is currently doing press for his upcoming movie, The Foreigner, confirmed that Rush Hour 4 is definitely happening. The underperforming Rush Hour 3 hit theaters more than a decade ago and barely made a box office impact, unlike its predecessors. That led to the possibility of having the fourth Rush Hour movie at that time, out of the question. However, now Jackie himself confirmed that both he and his Rush Hour co-star Chris Tucker are gearing up for Rush Hour 4 and going to meet the director in a couple of days. He also hinted that they plan to start the production next year. This is what Jackie said:
“Good news. Next year, Rush Hour 4, and I hope the script done. And day after tomorrow we meet the director and Chris Tucker again to make sure we go the right track.”
Jackie did not mention the director’s name but its possible he means Brett Ratner, the franchise director who has directed all 3 Rush Hour movies so far. Ratner mentioned back in March that’s he’s in talks with writers and wants to get the Rush Hour 4 script ready.
Currently, Brett Ratner is focusing on making the Hugh Hefner biopic with Jared Leto and has not directed a movie since 2014’s Hercules starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The movie didn’t do particularly well at the box office and Brett decided to take a hiatus from directing. The first Rush Hour movie came in 1998 and was made on a modest budget of $35 million. The movie went on to make $244.4 million worldwide, making it a smash hit at the box office. Both Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker were in the prime of their careers and fans loved their hilarious combination. Naturally, Rush Hour 2 happened and enjoyed the same success as the first one, making $347.3 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. The third movie came out in 2007 and could only make $258 million worldwide on an escalated budget of $140 million.

As mentioned earlier, Jackie is currently doing press for his upcoming movie, The Foreigner which is set to release on October 13, 2017. The action legend was giving an interview to the San Francisco Chronicle and did not reveal further Rush Hour 4 details but we do hope that we’ll have more on the project very soon.
