Will Smith has officially departed the cast of the new thriller movie ‘Sugar Bandits’ which is being directed by Stefano Sollima, according to Deadline.
Smith reportedly backed out of the film due to scheduling conflicts but it is not immediately known which new project Smith is working on to create the scheduling issue. Smith was announced as the star of the film back in February.
Now the film will be looking to recast Smith’s role and has hopes to film the movie in 2025 but, as Deadline reports, there is “now a question mark” regarding the future of the ‘Sugar Bandits’ movie.
“The circa $80M project was sold all around the world at the EFM and in Cannes to leading independent distributors and Amazon Prime on the understanding that Smith would be starring in it,” the article said.
According to the original synopsis of the film, it“ follows a former Special Forces soldier who joins an elite, vigilante squad aiming to wipe out the drug trade in Boston, but soon learns things are not what they seem.”
