Wonder Woman 2 got an official release date back in July and we have just received the confirmation that movie will kick off production in summer 2018. Just like the first one, the sequel will be a period piece as well. Gal Gadot will once again utilize her godly powers to fight against a Soviet threat as the sequel will be set in the 80s. Warner Bros. is keeping the winning team intact by bringing back Petty Jenkins to direct the sequel. With the record-breaking success of Wonder Woman and her second contract for the sequel, Jenkins made a record of her own by becoming the highest-paid female director. Jenkins announced this summer that she has already started working on a new script for the sequel and is being aided by the famous comic book writer and DC Films boss, Geoff Johns. The production update also revealed the working plot of Wonder Woman 2 which states:
“The sequel will be a period piece, with Princess Diana facing off against the Soviet Union during the 1980s.”
According to the Omega Underground reports, Wonder Woman 2 will begin the production sometime in June 2018. The reports don’t reveal whether or not the crew will actually shoot on locations in Russia, especially since the 2 countries are not on the best of terms in the last couple of years. Actor Chris Pine who played Steve in Wonder Woman is also rumored to appear in the sequel but so far it hasn’t been confirmed officially.
Gal Gadot is also in talks to star in another project named Ruin, a World War II thriller which is going to be directed by Justin Kurzel (Assassin’s Creed). If she lands the role, she’ll have to shoot Ruin in sometime January 2018. This means that she’ll immediately start shooting Wonder Woman 2 without any break, just like she did with Wonder Woman and the upcoming Justice League. Ruin is a World War II revenge action thriller somewhat similar to Inglourious Basterds and Fury. The movie is about a “nameless ex-Nazi captain” who wants to make amends for his gruesome war crimes and is tracking down Nazi SS Death Squad‘s surviving members through the ruins of Germany after the war. As for the highly-anticipated superhero sequel Wonder Woman 2, make sure to check out your local screening on December 13, 2019.
